The Thursday before Easter is known as either Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday. Maundy is derived from the Latin word for "command" and refers to Jesus' commandment to the disciples to "Love one another as I have loved you." It commemorates Jesus washing the disciples’ feet and the Last Supper with His disciples.
Good Friday - April 18, 2025
7:30pm Tenebrae Worship in the Chapel
Childcare available
“Good Friday” is the Friday before Easter, and it signifies the day Jesus was crucified. It is called “Good” because it led to the Resurrection of Jesus and His victory over sin and death.
"Tenebrae" is the Latin word meaning "darkness” or “shadows”. The service involves reading Matthew’s account of the trial, sentencing, execution, death and burial of Jesus. After each segment of the story is read, a candle is extinguished. After the eighth reading, which confirms Jesus’ death on the cross, the Christ candle is removed and a loud sound is heard, symbolizing the earthquake that happened when Jesus died. The Christ candle is later restored to its place, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
