August 19, 2010: We had a construction "snag" related to the existing water line and City-related requirements in our parking lot construction. We could have solved it with piles of money. Instead, we took the extra time to ask the church's consultants to work with the City to come up with an innovative solution that costs 90% less. We believe trading time and brainpower to save money was a good trade. Construction will resume shortly. Thank you for your patience!
July 27, 2010: Yeah! We are finally moving some dirt at our new parking lot site thanks to your prayers and financial gifts in action. What makes this project so amazing has been your willingness to underwrite it during a massive global economic slowdown. I now join Jesus in saying to you, “Well done good and faithful servant!” -Pastor Ken Brown

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. John 15:11 (NIV)
There is a lot of "Kingdom Work" happening at Broomfield UMC! Following are a few examples of our church's ministry impact.
- Over 200 bags of food were donated to Broomfield FISH on August 1, 2010 during our U2charist food drive to raise awareness of hunger in our area.
- In July of 2010, 12 volunteers from BUMC assisted with the Wal-Mart school supply collection organized by the organization A Precious Child. Donations from the BUMC congregation allowed us to deliver a trunk load of school supplies to aid in filling 2,000 backpacks, a 100% increase from 2009.
- On July 20, 2010, 30 people gave their time to be trained in First Aid and CPR to be better prepared to help in case of a Sunday morning emergency.
- 95 kids attended a free Math Camp at BUMC during the summer of 2010 to jump start their brains for the coming school year.
- At the July 11, 2010 Bonfils Blood Drive at BUMC, we had 21 blood donors with two first-time donors. A big thank you to these donors who took time for this important outreach!
- On June 30, 2010, the Youth sorted donations for Nelson Ministries, a local homeless ministry.
- The Youth are sponsoring Ioanna through Global Hope. By collecting change and the proceeds from burrito, pop and candy sales from August 2009 through May 2010, the Youth were able to donate $4,382 towards Ioanna's medical care.
- Our 2010 Vacation Bible School kids collected 1200 pounds of food for Broomfield FISH, 440 pairs of shoes for One World Running (going to Haiti), $726 for Global Hope mission trips to Romania and Kenya. Way to go, kids!
- 13 Youth and 2 adults participated in a week of mission work in Kansas city in June 2010.
- In May 2010, BUMC Children's Sunday School raised $60 to be used for plants or flowers to beautify the church grounds - a part of a BUMC Green Team initiative.
- On May 15, 2010, 18 BUMC members participated in "Understanding Your Communication Style". The lively workshop enabled leaders to discover their approach to communication and leadership, as well as understanding other styles and how to relate effectively to people with different styles.
- BUMC hosted a Bonfils Blood Drive in May 2010 - 30 units/pints of blood and three first-time donors participated.
Emailed Feedback About BUMC's Music Ministry:
When Jenn and I first started to visit BUMC (over 3 years ago) I was starting to climb out of a very low point of my spiritual journey. After being very active at my "home" Lutheran church in Minnesota, I had not found a church home during my college years, and other than some extended visits back with my parents, I had spiritually "dried up" and it was not an easy thing to get back on track with.
Every Sunday morning I pretty much looked for a reason or excuse not to go to church, even though Jenn and I had agreed that it was time to find a Colorado church home. We tried three different Lutheran churches but none of them felt right to us, either they were too Catholic, too unfriendly, or something else. Now growing up I was always into traditional worship. I couldn't imagine becoming a regular attendee of a contemporary service. However, the first time we came to a 9:45am service at BUMC and heard the music—I was like, "Wow, this is really cool!" I think that Sunday the third song of opening music was David Crowder's "You Alone" and I just remember feeling torn down to the core and thinking how grateful I am just to be alive...and how good it feels just to be alive. I consider Carbon Leaf's "Let your troubles roll by" (track 9 on the album) to be a very spiritual song for me, especially when in the last verse he sings "So pay no mind, my sorrow is fine, the day is alive and that's why I cry."
Getting the chance to work so closely with the music program at BUMC has been a true blessing for me. The people that I've met are like family. I feel we can share anything that's on our mind, be it a prayer concern or just a funny joke. I wanted to say thanks for giving me the opportunities that I've had the chance to share in. Even a bad day working with the music worship team is better than most people's good days in my book.
Now, rather than looking for an excuse not to go to church, it's exciting for me every Sunday to be at BUMC. Even if we're tired and had a long Saturday night of fellowship with friends, I'm thrilled to get to church and see my Colorado "family" at BUMC.

Emailed Feedback About Vacation Bible School 2009:
My wife and I just wanted to take a moment and send you a brief note of thanks for all that you and your volunteers did in preparation and instruction this week during Vacation Bible School. Our daughter, Sara, was one of the "Bears" and had a wonderful experience! Each day, on the ride home, she told us about the songs, bible lessons, crafts, and friendships that she was exposed to and enjoying (even the day when I was late to pick her up due to tire difficulty....thanks a million again to your staff for remaining with her). Our family are "attendees" at BUMC, and she and her little sister enjoy the Sunday school classes, but this week gave Sara a greater feeling of the church community at BUMC. Being the son and grandson of a Methodist minister, I recall fondly my experiences during the summers at Vaction Bible School, so I shared in Sara's joy as she learned lessons about Jesus, his teachings, and her relationship with the Lord. What a wonderful experience! The program at the end of the week certainly served as a representation of God's love, as the countless children joined together in songs that would bring a smile to any face. We deeply appreciate your ministry, and all that you and your "crew" gave of yourselves to make this a truly memorable week for our children.
Thanks again!
Chris and Hannah
Dear Ken and staff, I just wanted to say what a wonderful job Vicki and Christine did with VBS this year! My kids absolutely LOVE it! My 5th grader is anxious to volunteer as a helper next year, my 5 year old and 2 year olds can't stop talking about Sparkx and all the fun activities they did! Thanks again Vicki and Christine for a job well done!!
Regards, Nichole
Emailed Feedback About "Running" for God:
My girlfriend, Kari, and I are going to be running the Georgetown to Idaho Springs half-marathon. For awhile now I've been thinking about running for a cause. I remember high school and getting people to donate based on how many times I could jump rope and such. Well, I would like to run my first half-marathon to help. Your sermon today finally got me to take action. I first thought about running for the HOPE house.
The reason I chose Hope House is I know how it feels to be shunned from family and having no where to go. Years ago, I was living with my dad and step-mom. I had my problems with alcohol and my step-mom forced me out and I had no where to go. For a couple years life was really bad until my mother and stepfather asked me to move to Colorado with them. I haven't drank in 2 1/2 years, got my life back, am finishing school, and it’s because someone helped. Now I know these mothers have even bigger issues as they are responsible for another life - so I have great respect for that. If I can help in any way so these women know how strong they are, that would be great.
In Sunday’s sermon, and for past weeks, you discussed the capital campaign. Last Sunday you also talked about other ways of helping and how people always say they will do something and never do...so that got me to go home and send a couple emails. Now this thought is turning into a reality.
